Ko Samui
Ko Samui is a classic Thai holiday island with palm beaches, resorts, restaurants, temples, viewpoints and bathing-friendly bays. The beach is suitable for couples, families and travelers who want beach life with a more relaxed feel than the busiest parts of Phuket.
Samui has its own airport, but many also travel via Surat Thani by ferry. Taxis, hotel transfers and rental cars/scooters are common, while public transport is more limited and less predictable.
Best months
December to April is often best for sun and beach, while May to August can provide a good balance between weather.
Weather
Ko Samui has a tropical climate, but the rainy monsoon differs somewhat from the Andaman coast. It is warm all year round, with the best beach feeling in drier periods and more showers, high humidity and rougher seas in the rainy season.
Transfer
With flights direct to Samui, transfers are often short to many beach areas. Traveling via Surat Thani is cheaper, but more complex with bus/minivan and ferry before reaching the hotel.
