Weather Alpine weather changes quickly and depends strongly on altitude. Summer brings mild days in the valleys and cooler evenings in the mountains, while winter brings snowy conditions in the ski areas. Spring and late autumn can have uncertain operation and mixed forage.
Transfer Zurich, Geneva, Basel and Milan may be relevant airports depending on the valley. The Swiss train network and the panoramic trains make many mountain bases easy to reach without a car, but the last leg may include a local train, bus, cable car or hotel shuttle.
