Lombardy is more than Milan: the region combines big cities, shopping, food, train connections, mountain areas and famous lakes such as Como, Garda and Maggiore. For holiday customers, it is best when you want a comfortable base in Italy with city life and beautiful excursions, not primarily a classic beach holiday.

The Milan area has several airports and a very good train network. The lakeside areas can be expensive and busy at weekends and high season, especially the most famous cities. Boats are often part of the experience at Como and Maggiore.

Weather Lombardy has hot summers, cool winters and big local differences between Milan, the lakes and the Alps. The lakes often have a milder microclimate, while the big city can feel oppressively hot in the middle of summer. Spring and autumn are most pleasant for active sightseeing.
Transfer Milan Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo offer many flight options. Trains make Milan, Como, Bergamo, Brescia and several ports of entry easy to combine. For smaller villages around the lakes, boat, bus or car may be necessary.
