Calabria is located in the very south of mainland Italy and offers dramatic coastlines, clear water, small towns and a holiday profile that often feels less polished than the most famous Italian travel destinations. The region is well suited for travelers who want beach and dining experiences with a more local character.

Calabria is best for a flexible holiday with beaches, small towns and local restaurants. Many of the finest places are scattered along the coast, so check the distance to the train station, beach and city center before booking. English level and tourism offer can be more uneven than in Northern Italy.

Weather Summers are hot, sunny and dry along the coast, while spring and autumn are milder. The bathing period is normally longest on the Tyrrhenian side around Tropea and Capo Vaticano. Inland and mountain areas can have completely different weather to the coast.
Transfer Lamezia Terme is often most convenient for the Tropea and Capo Vaticano area, while Reggio Calabria and Crotone may be appropriate for other parts. Trains can be found along the coast, but cars clearly offer more flexibility to beaches, viewpoints and smaller towns.
